About

Shelley Bibbins was born in Los Angeles, California and later moved to Houston, Texas. A primarily self-taught artist inspired by her passion to become a fashion designer, she began drawing sketches in her sketch book and her interest in sketching and painting was born, which has propelled her into the artist she is today.
Shelley began taking courses at Long Beach City College in Fashion Design and Art. Painting classes were later added to the schedule. Shelley was so inspired by the classes she was taking that she vowed that she would see her works displayed for the world to see and, out of that determination, the first seed of a future collection was birthed, which she mounted above her futon with the promise to herself that this was just the beginning.
Shelley believes her oil paintings reflect her life's journey. Her father was an integral part of her development and when he passed away, she felt that the bond they shared and the security she felt having him in her life would be lost, but through her paintings, those memories live on as each one of her paintings captures a visual page in her life’s journey. As she maneuvers through the beauty of her world, she constantly strives to balance the exclusive quality of her paintings.
Shelley’s paintings depict a visual contrast of life in diverse urban neighborhoods and her images of urban hangouts are poignant and insightful, balancing color, texture, and shape. Shelley’s desire in her paintings is to evoke an emotion from the viewer to which they can relate because of a past experience. Shelley strongly believes that the mark of a good artist is to paint stories on canvas that stir up the emotions of all viewers, and she hopes that she has accomplished that.
Shelley thanks God for the creative gift and other talents with which He has blessed her. She is also tremendously grateful for her family and friends.
